Saturday Made Its Case
Kentucky State Rolled. South Carolina State Stayed Perfect. The Rest Of The Board Answered Back.
Kentucky State delivered the biggest result of the day, going into Albany and beating the Golden Rams 24-16. The Thorobreds moved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in SIAC play and took control of an important piece of the conference conversation.
South Carolina State just keeps being that dog. The Bulldogs beat Bethune-Cookman 31-21 and moved to 5-0. Norfolk State went to Chicago and won 43-20, giving Michael Vick his first road victory as Spartans head coach. Alabama State handled Mississippi Valley State 41-15. The Hornets just keep stinging everybody in their path.
In the CIAA, the Virginia schools kept applying pressure. Virginia Union shut out Fayetteville State 14-0, while Virginia State overwhelmed Winston-Salem State 49-19. But not everything came easily. Shaw survived Livingstone 28-27 in a one-point conference fight.
North Carolina A&T also had to work overtime, beating Rhode Island 22-18 in OT. It was a hard-earned non-conference win and another reminder that Saturday was not only about blowouts.
Alabama A&M may be getting ready for the test everybody will watch next. The Bulldogs beat Florida A&M 40-21, improved to 4-1, and now turn toward Jackson State.
Saturday did not settle the season. It told us who is ready for bigger questions, who can survive close games and who is beginning to separate from the pack.

The Saturday Verdict
Best overall performance:
Virginia State
Best defensive performance:
Virginia Union
Most important win:
Kentucky State
Strongest individual rushing performance:
Bowie State's Maximus Jones
Most efficient offensive connection:
Lincoln's Isaiah Triplett to Kaden Tyson
Biggest concern:
Albany State's inability to match Kentucky State's offensive production
Kentucky State and Virginia State moved their names forward. Virginia Union reminded everyone that defense still travels. Albany State left the field with questions that cannot be answered by reputation.
